About the Brewery - a Brief Introduction & Overview

OUR ROOTS RUN DEEP

EARLY 1900’s – Foster’s Cider Mill is opened and quickly becomes a social gathering spot for farmers who drop off their harvest and then stay to sample the fermented beverages. Sunday is also a social time at the mill, as families leave their apples on their way to church and then pick up the pressed cider on their way home the following week.

1938 – Camp Idletyme is established and consists of a gas station, youth hostel, variety store, and tennis camp run by Sepp Ruschp. Sepp is a local legend because he was the president of the Mt. Mansfield Company but in his downtime, he founded the first ski patrol in the country, as well as Stowe’s first ski school. Idletyme Camp closed at the beginning of World War II.

1965 – The Shed Restaurant opens by two ski instructor friends. The Shed brings brewing to Stowe in 1995 and, after a historic run, closes in 2011.

Present Day – Idletyme Brewing Company opens and continues the legacy of the past. Whether you’ve just enjoyed a long hike, a day on the slopes, a mountain bike ride, round of golf, day at the office or a fun shopping excursion at the local shops,  Idletyme Brewing Company is the spot to meet, chat, make friends, and of course, enjoy good food and drink.
